Meet The Team

Having started Unicorn Magazine some 31 years ago, Alan Creamer and Theo Thomas stepped down in April 2013 for a well-earned rest. In their place, the new editorial team of Clive Batkin & Sandra Lawes have taken over – read all about them below:

Sandra Lawes (Editorial & Business Processes)
Sandra has been passionate about folk music since her student days and believes strongly in the importance of live music. Living in the Unicorn area for more than 30 years and an active member of Hitchin Folk Club for longer than she cares to remember, Sandra regularly attends folk festivals all over England and abroad.

Throughout her successful business career, she has held senior marketing posts in major companies and has run her own market research and public speaking coaching company since 2000. You can see her business website at

Delighted to use her skills and experience to run the business side of Unicorn Magazine, Sandra is proud to be part of the Unicorn team. She is helping to broaden the scale and scope of the Magazine and develop new ways to support and promote the vibrant local folk scene.

Clive Batkin (Editorial & Design)
Clive is a long time supporter of folk music in the area, both as a performer (he plays guitar and mandolin with a variety of musicians, teaches and runs workshops) but also as the unofficial 'marketing arm' for the St Albans Folk Festival (having created all the logos, design, print and web materials for a variety of their concerts over the years)

Clive runs his own design & creative consultancy, and is very excited about bringing his design expertise to bear with the next evolution of Unicorn Magazine.
